With more than a million species at risk of extinction<\/strong>, countries must work now to achieve a sustainable future for people and the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/strong> told leaders attending the UN Biodiversity Conference<\/a>, which opened on Monday from Kunming, China<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are losing our suicidal war against nature,\u201d <\/strong>Antonio Guterres said<\/a> in a video message<\/strong> to the meeting, which is mainly being held virtually<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The UN chief<\/strong> warned that \u201chumanity\u2019s reckless interference with nature<\/strong>\u201d will have permanent consequences<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe rate of species loss is tens to hundreds of times higher than the average of the past 10 million years, and accelerating. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Over a million species of plants, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates are at risk, many within decades,\u201d<\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cEcosystem collapse could cost<\/strong> almost three trillion US dollars annually by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Its greatest impact will be on some of the poorest and most highly indebted countries<\/strong>,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The conference, known as COP15<\/strong>, will develop a global roadmap<\/strong> for the conservation, protection, restoration and sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystems<\/strong> for the next decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCOP15 is our chance to call a ceasefire<\/strong>,\u201d said the UN Secretary-General. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTogether with COP26 on climate, it should lay the foundations for a permanent peace agreement<\/strong>\u201d, according UN News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Join the World Government Movement if you believe the World Leaders should collaborate more,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n because together, with the help of God, we can<\/strong> create Heaven on Earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nEcosystem collapse looming <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
